From An Interior Design Perspective: San Francisco

If you know me, you know I love a good getaway.

Especially when it’s in my old stomping grounds of California where I love to take a trip down memory lane and visit my favorite cities, but explore new and unique stays, great food, and (of course) the shopping! Being an interior designer, I find that I gravitate towards walking up and down the streets, enamored by the architecture and amazing design concepts of new and revamped hotels of each city, and that’s exactly what I did on my trip to San Francisco.

I cannot speak enough about the White Swann Inn in the heart of the Nob Hill District of the city. Not only is it extremely relaxing, but the rooms speak for themselves. Each room features bold colors, textures and fixtures unlike any B&B I’ve ever stayed in, with gorgeous floral wallpaper and dark wood accents that make the room pop. I still haven’t decided what my favorite part of the room is! It pays homage to cozy country manors in Britain, yet brings the vibe of “the Clash” meets Alexander McQueen. It really is an experience like no other. If you’re looking for a fun, yet cozy stay, the White Swann Inn is definitely it.

In a city rich in architecture, how could you not explore? San Francisco is one of those special cities where you can just get lost and immerse yourself in the architecture. The old Victorian style homes and storefronts mixed with the modern hotels and large-scale apartments…it’s like an interior designer’s dream!

Something that I’ll never forget is walking into Chanel. If you haven’t been…girl, here is your sign to go! From its high vaulted ceilings, to the delicate and gorgeously placed merchandising, it really is like walking through a fashion museum (and, yes, of course I had to treat myself!).

A trip to San Francisco isn’t complete without the restaurants, and with so many new amazing places to dine, it was hard to choose! But, I think we nailed it.

First and foremost, you have to go to Cotogna. For all of my italianos out there, this is for you! Located in the Jackson Square district, you cannot go wrong with the way they do Italian dining. I think I died and went to pizza and burrata heaven (ACI Tip: Definitely go with the Pizza bianca con tartufo nero…you won’t regret it!). The wine and cocktail list is amazing, and there’s something for everyone to love and rave over.

Another must-visit is the cute and quaint coffee shop, Saint Frank, in the Russian Hill neighborhood. Walking in, you first notice the smell of freshly-ground espresso beans and look into a room of polished, Modern Scandinavian decor and design. The coffee is delicious and the vibe is calm and happy…just the way to begin your morning of roaming around the cityscapes.

A perfect trip full of great food, amazing architecture and memories I’ll never forget!

Now it’s time to plan yours! Enjoy.
